Two Places For Yummy Take-Away Food Near Jed's Island Resort: Betty's Native Cakes and Aling Rosa Nita's Pancit Malabon

I'm keeping this short (shorter than my usual, heh.) and sweet much like these yummy goodies we had when we went to Jed's Island Resort. It's a good thing the resort does not impose a corkage fee on food and drinks and allows patrons to go in and out the resort. Mom thought our provisions that day were lacking so off she and my brother went to nearby Calumpit Market which we passed by along MacArthur Hiway on the way to the resort from Malolos. Near the market were stores offering Betty's Native Cakes and Aling Rosa Nita's Pancit Malabon.

betty's kakanin and rosanita's pancit malabon

Aling Rosa Nita's Pancit Malabon is not at all sweet. But much like the bilao of Betty's Native Cakes, we made short work of it. It's sauce taste much like the Dinar St., St. Michael Pancit Malabon offered by sister's former student's family if albeit less peppery. Toppings, as you can see in the pic above, are hard-boiled eggs, pork, chicharon, a few boiled shrimps and squid cooked adobo style (adobong pusit). Their sauce has no acid but several pieces of calamansi come with the bilao. The bilao eight of us scarfed down costs around P400. You need to wait for them to prepare your order. Should be enough time for you to go to Betty's Native Cakes and order a bilao.

The kakanins from Betty's which we had were of just the right sweetness. Everything is just so creamy and cheesy! But not so that you couldn't tell one from the other. We had Duman (which is similar to biko), Ube, Cassava Cake and Cassava Cheese (different from the Cassava Cake as this one is quite will-stick-to-the-knife-and-the-roof-of-your-mouth chewy). A spoonful into the Duman which was the first to be sectioned and we were sold. We dug right away into the other kakanins, never mind that they have yet to be portioned. Sister immediately plotted how she could get some she could serve on her birthday. They were that good.  At the store, bilaos on display contain only a type of kakanin but you can actually request for 4 different native cakes in 1 bilao. A bilao of 4 quarter native cakes is around P400.

Any food finds near the area, Jed's Island Resort or Calumpit Market, you'd like to share? Please. Post them in the comments. Help resort patrons who didn't bring or don't have enough food or who prefer other options than the ones offered in the resort or people just looking for tasty eats.
