Green Cross Insect Repellent Lotions

In the tropics, mosquitoes are a year round nuisance. While they multiple fast during the rainy season because of stagnant water everywhere, there seems to be a lot of them invading homes during summer. I guess it's partly because they wouldn't have trouble evading raindrops while flying. Also, mosquitoes tend to zero on sweaty people and of course summer = sweat. I've also noticed that there tends to be more mosquitoes in an area where there's construction work.

Generally, it's the itchy discomfort of mosquito bites which would make me slather on insect repellent lotion. But then there are the other much more frightening diseases that should make one more vigilant against mosquitoes: Japanese encephalitis (which was in the local evening news recently due to several cases being reported in Region III), dengue, malaria to name some.

Green Cross Insect Repellent Lotions repel day and night mosquitoes. They're hypoallergenic. Another plus point is that they provide 99.9% antibacterial protection the same number of hours they shield you from mosquitoes.

There are three Green Cross Insect Repellent Lotions in the market offering varying percentages of their potent mosquito-warding ingredients. Each smells different from the other but the scents are fairly unisex. In terms of scent, subtle Gentle Protect is my fave. Active Protect smells like the earlier formulation of Godiva Licowhite Lotion.

1. Family Protect - reliable protection for more than 4 hours. N, N-Diethyl-meta-toluamide, 7.5%.
2. Gentle Protect - kid friendly protection up to 8 hours. light and non-greasy. Picaridin, 10%
3. Active Protect - maximum protection for up to 10 hours. cool on skin. N, N-Diethyl-meta-toluamide, 25%.

I assume the stuff is potent as the label also advises to put the stuff only on exposed body parts, not under one's clothes. Also not on damaged skin. It may damage certain leathers, synthetic fibers and plastics.

It was August last year when the Green Insect Repellent Lotion we had was put to the test. The family went to the province and stayed in a rural area with lots of trees and a river nearby. There were paddy fields but they were a little aways. And there were lots of mosquitoes. And no door or window screens. Good thing we brought a tube of Green Cross Insect Repellent. Lotion Gentle Protect. It kept the mosquitoes from feasting on us. We were able to sleep in peace. We didn't wake in the middle of the night to reapply the lotion.  Relatives who did not slather on the lotion were sporting polka dots the next day. That was when we knew it was good stuff. Some insect repellent lotions we've tried before only managed to keep mosquitoes at bay for a few hours. And that's within the confines of our screened home. Some didn't work at all.

Sister kids that it's the bitter taste of the lotion that keeps mosquitoes away. One night, still in the province, sister and some were eating dinner by hand, without utensils. She had just applied the lotion and had forgotten to wash the stuff off her hands. Sister said if she were a mosquito, she'd never ever bite someone which tastes that way. Of course, people, never ingest any beauty/hygiene product. The label on the lotion strongly cautions against getting the stuff into one's orifices.

When brother's family came to visit us, they were similarly impressed with the Green Cross Insect Repellent Lotion that they bought one for them to take home and another to replace the tube they have consumed. Mom even gave the neighbor a tube. You know a product is good when someone suddenly gives it (not just recommend) to you as a solution to something you are complaining about or when you are confident enough to give it away.

Green Cross Insect Repellent Lotions are available in sachets (should you wish to try them out first) and tubes. They're one of the more affordable insect repellent lotions in the market. We get our Green Cross stash from Puregold stores.
