Jeepney Fare Computation for Metro Manila, Region 3, Region 4 as of February 2017

Minimum fare's back to P8 from P7 for jeepneys in Metro Manila, Region 3 and Region 4. However, fares for exceeding kilometers remain the same or will not increase given that when minimum fare went down to P7 last year, fare for exceeding kilometers did not went down by P1 but remained the same.

According to a report in last friday's episode of Umagang Kay Ganda, jeepney operators/ drivers do not need to secure new fare matrices as the LTFRB will not be issuing any. LTFRB did, however, state in a press release that jeepney operators do need to "post a notice of provisional fare increase" inside the jeep. In a report by Doris Bigornia in TV Patrol last Friday, jeepney operators may post a note which they themselves made to let their riders know of the increase. Yes, manong can have a handwritten fare increase karatula in his jeep.

Be that as it may, jeepneys should still have in their jeepneys the matrices for when the fare was originally P8 and each exceeding kilometer was P1.50 as this is what is in effect now. It allows easier transaction and avoids confusion.

Some jeepneys haven't been posting their fare matrices so I tried looking for government websites which would list them. I was hoping for specific area matrices, say for jeepneys plying Monumento to Divisoria. Thumbs up to LTFRB for having them on their website. It ain't complete but it's better than none. Head on to the fare rates tab at the upper left part of the website to check how much fare you should really be paying. Download into your phone or print them and maybe show them to jeepney drivers who charge differently.

Meanwhile at Open Data Philippines, there's a table computing fares for specific distances. If you know how many kilometers it is to your destination, if you were to take the jeepneys route, good for you. Visit this government site. Or see the screen grab below.

So as of February 10, 2017, it's P8 for the first 4 kilometers plus P1.50 for every succeeding kilometer. Senior citizens, students (those off to school only), and PWDs get 20% off.  If you don't feel like computing that's what the table above is for.
